Seaweed Face Mask recipe (1)

Seaweed is full of nutrients and can benefit the skin in multiple ways. Enjoying a seaweed face mask is one way our skin can absorb the goodness of seaweed. Here I share a seaweed face mask recipe using; Egg wrack, also known as knotted wrack or rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum).
Egg wrack is one of the seaweeds covered in my pocket Seaweed Foraging book, complete with details of where to harvest, nutrition and both a sweet and savoury recipe for you to try egg wrack as a nutritional boost and flavour in food. In the book you can also learn how to dry, ground and store seaweed.

Why use Egg wrack in a face mask?*
Egg wrack, also known as knotted wrack or rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) is a brown seaweed full of nutrition including oils omega 3 and 6 as well as B12 and plenty of antioxidants. You can read more about the nutrition of Egg wrack here – health benefits of Egg wrack.

Egg wrack is also a great exfoliator and detoxifyer, with vitamin E, amino acids and a range of minerals and trace elements. For this seaweed face mask I use the seaweed ground.
Imagine lying back and letting the seaweed do its work drawing out toxins and feeding your skin…

Seaweed face mask recipe
- 1 tablespoon of ground egg wrack seaweed
- water
- 1 teaspoon good extra virgin olive oil
Mix the seaweed powder with enough water to make a paste – about two tablespoons before adding the oil. You can keep the paste covered in the fridge for up to one week. Rub the seaweed paste onto your face or another area of your skin, relax and wash off after 10-15 minutes. Your skin should feel great!

* Do not use if you if you have an allergy to iodine, or have a thyroid imbalance and therefore need to avoid iodine.
