Tremenheere Gardens and the surrounding area is full of wild and cultivated plants that can be used to make 100% sustainable and plastic-free bowls. Discover how to transform grasses, ‘weeds’ and garden waste into a beautiful and functional bowl, pot or mat.

Who is this event for? Anyone interested in plants, crafts and using natural and ‘waste’ materials to create objects and vessels with. Suitable for beginners and those with previous craft experience.

What to expect on this forage and make a bowl, pot or mat:

  • A foraging walk to learn about materials and gather a small amount (the rest will be provided or you can bring your own)
  • Learn about different plants and how to process them to craft with
  • Discover and practice the technique of coil making* and stitching
  • See different examples of vessels and mats you could make and design your own
  • Bring a packed lunch or purchase from Tremenheere Kitchen
  • Make a bowl in a day!

*Traditionally known as straw coil basket making, this is considered an endangered craft and at serious risk of no longer being practised in the UK.

Your facilitator: Rachel Lambert is a foraging guide (since 2007) and award-winning author on wild food and cooking. She first learnt to make cordage and weave with plants in her early twenties and has recently reignited her love of making from natural fibres. Thirty years later she is offering hands on workshops to share this simple, meditative skill, highlighting the amazing qualities of plants and ‘weeds’ that surround us.
