Potager Gardens and the surrounding area is full of wild and cultivated plants that can be used to make cordage (string). Discover how to transform common and exotic plants into simple plant fibres to make decorative and practical string for all sorts of projects.
Who is this event for? Anyone interested in plants, crafts and using natural and ‘waste’ materials (garden cuttings and weeds) and learning an ancient technique for practical and decorative projects. Suitable for beginners and those with previous craft experience.

What to expect on this forage and make cordage course:
- A foraging walk to gather materials to make cordage from
- Learn about different plants and how to process them to make into usable threads
- Discover and practice the technique of cordage making from different plants
- Bring a packed lunch or purchase at the Potager garden cafe
- See different examples of how cordage can be used (bags, bowls, pots, jewellery, ties)
- Go away with plant fibres to use on your own projects
